一、wish释义

二、wish的用法

1.wish作为及物动词,可接名词或代词作宾语.

Do you wish a pen or a book?

你要的是钢笔还是书?

2.wish能接双宾语表示祝愿.

I wish you success.

我祝你成功.

3.wish能接复合宾语.

I wish you to go with me.

我希望你同我一道去.

4.wish能接that引导的从句,从句的谓语动词要用虚拟语气(动词用过去时,或过去完成时).

I wish that I knew the answer.

我希望我知道这个答案.

I wish I had bought it yesterday.

我希望昨天买了它.

三、hope和wish的区别

hope用作动词时,后面可接不定式或that从句,但不能接“宾语+不定式”.如:

①We hope to see you again.(= We hope we can see you again.)

我希望能再次见到你.

②I hope you can help me with my maths.

希望你能帮助我学数学.

(不能说 I hope you to help me with my maths.)

wish后面接不定式或“宾语+不定式”都可以,其意义相当于“想要”,“希望”(=would like或want).wish接 that从句时一般表示某种强烈而又难以实现的“愿望”,而hope表示的是可以实现或能达到的“希望”.例如:

①I wish to place an order right now.

我想马上订购.

②I wish him to make progress.

我希望他取得进步.

③I wish I could fly like a bird.

但愿我能象鸟一样飞.(从句中的could表示其动作不可能实现,不能用can.)

④I hope he can do that.

我希望他能干那件事.(本句表示有可能实现的一种希望,can不能用could代替.)

wish可表示良好的“祝愿”,后面接“宾语+宾补(形容词或名词).而hope不能这样用.如:

①I wish you happy.

祝你幸福.(不用hope)

②I wish you a pleasant journey.

祝你旅途愉快.(不用hope)

在简略句中,如要表示希望某事不会发生时,应说I hope not,而不说 I don\"t hope so.

四、wish的虚拟语气用法

动词wish后接宾语从句时,从句谓语要用虚拟语气。若要表示与现在事实相反的愿望,从句谓语用一般过去时或过去进行时;若表示与过去相反的愿望,从句谓语用过去完成时或would / could+have +过去分词;若表示将来没有把握或不太可能实现的愿望,用would (could)+动词原形。如:

I wish I were not so busy.

但愿我不那样忙碌。

I wish I were [was] better looking.

要是我长得漂亮些就好了。

She wished she had stayed at home.

她后悔的是她当时要是留在家里就好了。

I wish you would go with us tomorrow.

要是你明天同我们一起去就好了。

I wish you wouldn’t look down on this kind of work.

我希望你不要看不起这种工作。

This watch has gone wrong. I wish I had bought a better make.

阿谀:说好听的话以投合别人的心意。[to say nice things in order to flatter or fawn upon someone]

奉承:用好听的话恭维人,向人讨好。[To flatter so as to curry favour with someone.]

阿谀奉承:巴结拍马,恭维别人。

英译:

1) To try to get somebody’s favour by flattery.

2) To flatter and cajole.

3) To ingratiate oneself into somebody’s favour.

4) To stoop to flattery.

5) be obsequious to/before sb.

flattery [不可数名词] 奉承,阿谀,讨好,恭维:Praise that is not sincere, especially in order to obtain sth from sb.

动词形式 flatter 奉承,讨好,向······谄媚:flatter sb = to say nice things about sb, often in a way that is not sincere, because you want them to do sth for you or you want to please them. 如:

Are you trying to flatter me? 你是想讨好我?

cajole [动词] 哄骗,劝诱,说服:If you cajole someone into doing something, you get them to do it after persuading them for some time.

ingratiate [动词] 使得到······的欢心,讨好:If someone tries to ingratiate themselves with you, they do things to try and make you like them. 如:

Many politicians are trying to ingratiate themselves with her. 许多政客都设法讨她的欢心。

stoop [动词] 本义是“俯身,弯腰”,引申义是“堕落(卑劣)到去做······”:To do something bad or morally wrong, which you do not normally do. 如:

[stoop to sth] You surely don’t think I’d stoop to that! 你不会认为我会下作到那种地步吧!

[stoop to doing sth] I didn’t expect you to stoop to lying. 我没料到你竟然会卑劣到去撒谎。

obsequious [形容词] 奉承的,巴结的,谄媚的:If you describe someone as obsequious, you are criticizing them because they are too eager to help or agree with someone more important than them. 如:

Barrow was positively obsequious to me until he learnt that I too was the son of a laboring man. 巴罗竭力讨好我,直到得知我也是工人家庭出身。

例句

1. 只知一味地在上级面前阿谀奉承、卑躬屈膝的人,最为人们所不齿。

People are most contemptuous of the person who knows only how to be obsequious before his superiors.

2. 他对王室竭尽阿谀奉承之能事。

He stopped at nothing to try to get the royal family’s favor by flattery.

stop at nothing to do sth 不择手段,无所顾忌:If you say that someone will stop at nothing to get something, you are emphasizing that they are willing to do things that are extreme, wrong, or dangerous in order to get it. 如:
